MUNCIE, Ind. — Earlier this year during the COVID-19 pandemic, Joel Godett was lying in bed one night thinking about what he could do to get involved.
Ball State Athletics’ director of broadcasting found himself with more free time than he would have liked, understandably. He had been diagnosed in January with Type 1 diabetes at 32 years old, leaving him grappling with what that meant for his life and what adjustments he’d need to make. He considered himself among those with quality insurance, but understood not everyone with his condition was and quickly discovered how expensive managing Type 1 diabetes can be.
