'We're building something here': Yorktown boys soccer turnaround has been years in the making

YORKTOWN, Ind. — Shane Guinn doesn't think of Yorktown's two losses this season as losses.

While, yes, they are technically losses, Guinn and his players consider them ties. After all, the Tigers boys soccer team's only two defeats this season came by way of shootout. The first was against Shelbyville on Sept. 12. The second came Wednesday night against Greenfield-Central, the three-time defending Hoosier Heritage Conference champions.

In 2019, Yorktown lost to Shelbyville 5-0. It lost to Greenfield-Central, which lost by one goal to eventual Class 3A state champion Zionsville in the regional final, 6-0. This year, it took all of regulation, two overtimes and a pair of shootouts for the Golden Bears and Cougars — two schools with 650 and 315 more students than Yorktown, respectively — to top the No.
