INDIANAPOLIS — Two days later, the shine hasn't worn off from Daleville's state championship win. The Broncos survived the sweltering heat to defeat University 4-2.
Daleville's defense was far form perfect with three errors, but the Broncos made two excellent plays when it mattered most.
The first is Daleville first baseman Jimmy Bowen scooping a throw on an infield grounder in the bottom of the seventh inning. The ball almost came out of his glove as he raised it into the air, and the winning run likely would have scored. But Bowen held on.
The other is when a ground ball deflected off Ayden Wilson in the bottom of the eighth, and again, University seemed primed to score the winning run.
