Wapahani seniors know state championship loss will add motivation for returning players

MUNCIE, Ind. — After they received their state runner-up medals and trophy, the members of Wapahani's volleyball team stayed on the floor.

They watched from the other end of the court as Heritage Christian was presented with the Class 2A State Championship trophy, its first in school history. The Eagles swept the Raiders 29-27, 25-18, 25-23.

Red-faced and teary-eyed, the Raiders waited until after the Eagles hoisted their trophy before they headed back to their locker room inside Ball State's Worthen Arena.

The three seniors — Alyvia Smith, Emma Shuck and Alison Stewart — watched Heritage Christian in disbelief.
