MUNCIE, Ind. — Central knew people weren't giving it much of a chance at the cross country sectional. But that was fine. The Bearcats liked the underdog role.
All five Bearcat scorers finished in the top 20 as Central (62) pulled away from a trio of teams to win the Delta sectional at the Muncie SportsPlex on Saturday. The team win was Central's first title in the past five years.
Monroe Central (84), defending champion Wapahani (86) and Delta (87) also advance to the regional along with Muncie Burris, which finished at 124.
"We knew coming in as the underdog, it was going be very, very difficult to beat those teams," said junior Kavan Byrd, Central's top finisher in fifth with a 17:27.
