BERNE, Ind. — Monroe Central football, especially its 10 seniors, will remember Friday night.
The Golden Bears (10-1) lost their Class 1A sectional semifinal matchup 6-3 on the road against their nemeses South Adams (9-2). The hard-fought battle was played in the rain on a field so muddy that the teams' black and white jerseys looked nearly indistinguishable by the end of the contest.
With neither team able to execute consistent offense and ball carriers often losing their grip, the game came down to a few critical plays that ended up going the Starfires' way. It was a brutal way for the Golden Bears' senior-led group to end its undefeated season, but they left it all out on the field.
