GREENFIELD, Ind. — Yorktown volleyball, the reigning Class 4A state champions, tearfully left the Greenfield-Central gym Saturday night.
The Tigers (29-4) were eliminated 3-1 (25-17, 25-17, 20-25, 25-21) by Roncalli (28-5) in the regional championship, a mostly unfamiliar feeling as they've won three of the last four regional titles since elevating to Class 4A in 2017.
Yorktown played from behind for nearly the entirety of a match of which they seized control. It was the Royals' night, but head coach Stephanie Bloom was still proud of her girls.
"I'm just most proud that we didn't give up and we didn't quit and we played with grit and came back and won that third set," Bloom said.
