MUNCIE, Ind. — As an NFL scout, Mike Neu took pride in finding hidden gems. The best scouts find the player at a small school who has been overlooked and brings him into the fold.
So now as the head coach at Ball State, Neu says, "You have to check every email you get." And he does. The Ball State football office gets at least 100 each day, and administrative assistant Abby Alexander goes through them each day and forwards them to three coaches: The player’s position coach, the head recruiter in that area and Neu.
Now if the player is only a sophomore in high school, Neu may not take the time to watch a full highlight tape, but he will if that recruit is an upperclassman.
