FRANKFORT, Ind. — They didn't want to lose, but if the Cowan Blackhawks' softball season had to come to an end, Lyndsay Gadbury couldn't think of a better way to go out than with an 11-inning back-and-forth ball game with a trip to the state championship on the line.
That's how Cowan's season — one of its best seasons in program history — ended Saturday night at Frankfort High School. The Blackhawks (17-11) lost 3-2 to Northfield (19-9) in the Class A semistate championship.
When Northfield's Kyra Kennedy hit the game-winning RBI-single in the bottom of the 11th inning, her teammates ran over to her in celebration.
