NEW CASTLE, Ind. — When most people hear about New Castle, they probably think about basketball. And how could they not, with the fieldhouse, notable alumni like Steve Alford and Kent Benson and that 2006 state championship squad.
But look up into the rafters at the fieldhouse, and beside the 1932 and 2006 basketball state championship banners you'll see that another sport actually accounted for New Castle's last state championship.
That's right, the Trojans won the Class 4A state volleyball title in 2007 — the first year it was held in Worthen Arena — in its only trip to the finals.
