The road to success: White Sox select Alex Call

Maybe it was because Alex Call had finally given up control of his baseball career, even if only for a moment.

After three years of meticulous planning and execution, he conceded all control to MLB front offices Friday afternoon. The first-team All-American figured someone would call on day two of the draft, but still the goal-driven outfielder was on edge as he waited for someone else to determine his future.

“I was sweating it out until right when they were making the pick and they gave me a call,” he said, reflecting on the moment the Chicago White Sox rang his phone in the third round.
