NEW CASTLE, Ind. — Both sides knew this day was likely to come.
No. 1 New Castle (29-1) and No. 2 Yorktown (28-1) have been atop the state rankings all year long. The Trojans and Tigers are ranked No. 2 and No. 12 nationally, according to MaxPreps Top 25 poll. They each made their way to Worthen Arena last season and hoisted a state championship.
But regardless of how well New Castle or Yorktown performed in the regular season — and they played well, losing a combined two matches all season — they knew at least one of them wasn't going to make it out of the sectional.
