MUNCIE, Ind. — As John Baker spoke in April, less than a week after setting the Ball State baseball program record for career strikeouts, his mind wasn’t fixed on that accomplishment.
Baker knew that moment was coming, when he’d surpass Bryan Bullington’s previous record of 357. Prior to that April 23 start against Northern Illinois, Baker had read that he was close. And against NIU, during what became a complete-game victory for him on the mound, Baker set the new mark.
But while he was excited looking back on that moment, just as he was in the moment, Baker hadn’t lost sight of his ultimate goal.
