The battle between the sons of two former Ball State players at Worthen Arena

MUNCIE, Ind. — It was quite the scene for old college basketball fans and current high school basketball fans. Muncie Central’s Christian Wells and New Castle’s Mason Gillis, undoubtedly two of the top players in the area, went head-to-head all game on the Worthen Arena floor that both of their dads played on.

New Castle got the best of Central 79-60 in the final game before sectionals as Gillis racked up 33 points and 20 rebounds and Wells tallied 16 points and six rebounds. Afterward, both players acknowledged the significance.

“It was pretty cool coming into his old stomping grounds,” Gillis said of his dad, Bill, who played for Ball State from 1991-93 and was the Mid-American Conference Tournament MVP in 1992.
