MUNCIE, Ind. — The student section, which made up the entire section behind the south end zone, was, arguably, the largest it has been in years. Fans tailgated and 13,149 of them made their way into Scheumann Stadium. Weather-wise, it was about as nice of a night as it could be for football, next to no wind and temperatures in the mid-70s.
The anticipation for Ball State's first game of the 2021 football season was evident in and around the stadium.
And while it wasn't the most memorable night for Ball State, the Cardinals did enough to pull out a 31-21 victory over Football Championship Subdivision opponent Western Illinois.
