YORKTOWN, Ind. — The game ended, fittingly, with a swinging strikeout, and the celebration was on. Sullivan Swingley was mobbed by his Yorktown teammates, and while that had his attention, two more sprinted onto the field with the Gatorade cooler and showered their ace.
When it came time for Yorktown athletic director Paul Heidenreich's game ball and trophy presentation, Swingley had to fish the ball out of his back pocket and toss it to him.
With the way he pitched, though, he probably should have been allowed to keep it.
Swingley tossed a complete-game shutout and allowed just four hits, and Yorktown (24-8) rallied late to defeat Guerin Catholic 2-0 in the sectional championship on Monday.
