MUNCIE — Women's volleyball coach Steve Shondell announced his retirement from Ball State University Monday morning.
According to a Ball State press release, Shondell is leaving, effective immediately, after six seasons as head coach.
Shondell lead the Cardinals to a 119-68 record in his six seasons. During his tenure, Ball State won the 2010 Mid-American Conference regular season title. He was named the 2010 MAC Coach of the Year.
Before coming to Ball State in 2010, Shondell became a legendary volleyball coach at Burris Laboratory School. During his 35 years at the school, he built the program to be a national force, with four national championships, four national runners-up and 21 state championships, including a streak of 13 Class 2A titles in a row.
