NEW CASTLE, Ind. — The day before competing in her third-consecutive IHSAA state championship, Melani Shaffmaster took some time to reflect on her career.
The senior setter had already solidified her place in New Castle and Indiana volleyball history, starting all four years, winning two state championships and earning the 2017-18 Gatorade Indiana Volleyball Player of the Year, among other achievements.
Now, Shaffmaster can add another accolade to her incredible high school career. On Friday, she was presented with an Under Armour All-American jersey. Shaffmaster was one of 24 high school players in the country named to the 2019 Under Armour First Team All-America team and the only one from Indiana.
