CHANDLER, Ariz. - The National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) announced the 2018 Zag Field Hockey/NFHCA Division I National Academic Squad. The Ball State Cardinals earned 16 spots on this year's list just one week after being recognized with the National Academic Team Award.
The National Academic Squad began in 2001, and this year's 16 representatives under second-year head coach Stephanie Bernthal are the most Ball State has ever placed on the list. Bernthal's squad had 15 players earn the accolade last season.
The National Academic Squad honors student-athletes who have achieved a cumulative grade-point average of 3.
