STATESBORO, Georgia - Host Georgia Southern busted out for five runs in the bottom of the 8th inning to take a close game from Ball State in the season opener Friday night. The Cardinals allowed just six hits on the night but GSU managed to capitalize late in a 6-0 Georgia Southern win.
John Baker turned in a strong start and newcomer Devin Porter led the team with two hits in his college debut. Mack Murphy added a triple early in the game as BSU managed four hits on the night.
