MUNCIE - Ball State started its home opener in the best way possible, posting a team school record effort on the vault en route to a dual meet win over Western Michigan on Sunday.
All six vault performances were 9.775 or better, as BSU totaled the record of 49.175. Marissa Nychyk and Stephanie Schweikert, a pair of freshmen competing in Worthen Arena for the first time, both landed 9.875 on vault.
"We wanted to come out and do solid gymnastics, and we knew if we did that we would be able to beat Western," head coach Joanna Saleem said.
