MUNCIE — Before closing the curtain on an illustrious career at the Fieldhouse, Jayla Scaife had one last act of brilliance left.
As the clock counted down under a minute Tuesday night, Central’s star senior dribbled right and then back left around a ball screen. Kokomo had tied the North Central Conference contest 15 seconds earlier, but as Scaife had so often in her career, she took matters into her own hands.
As her defender went under the screen, Scaife rose up and sank a 3-pointer from the top of the key to give the Bearcats the lead with 53 seconds left, and it was ultimately the difference in Central’s 44-39 victory.
