MUNCIE, Ind. — The basket itself proved to be innocuous.
Heather Pautler went up for a layup toward the end of a girls’ basketball matchup between Daleville and Wes-Del. The Broncos’ star hit it. She extended an already substantial lead in what would become a 65-32 win for Daleville.
But however much that bucket could get lost in the flow of that Saturday night game, it won’t. Because those two points didn’t just add to the Broncos’ lead or Pautler’s own total for the night, they earned her the record for career points by a Daleville girls’ basketball player with 684 — and they wouldn’t be her last on the evening.
