NEW CASTLE, Ind. — After New Castle boys basketball's 58-57 double-overtime win over Muncie Central on Friday, head coach Daniel Cox made his team take a deep breath.
The Trojans (17-4) had just completed their best regular season in four years, using the momentum from last year's unlikely sectional title run to end as the ninth-ranked Class 3A team in the state. Still, they needed a moment to reset for the next stage of the season.
The final test before sectionals was the team's seventh game in 15 days, going 6-1 in a sprint to finish line with just three days to prepare for a daunting first-round matchup against Jay County (19-4) on Tuesday.
