Ball State football had looked at its 2020 season with anticipation ever since the end of its 2019 campaign.
After the Mid-American Conference program finished the season 5-7 (4-4 in MAC), with three losses against conference foes by a combined eight points. After ending the season with a resounding 41-27 victory against rival Miami (Ohio), and looking ahead to a fall the next year in which BSU would return so many noteworthy talents that ended up on preseason award watch lists. Ball State head coach Mike Neu approached 2020 with a motto of "Detroit or Bust."
