Report: Former Ball State football coach Pete Lembo hired at Rice

MUNCIE, Ind. — Former Ball State football coach Pete Lembo is leaving his current job at Maryland to become the special teams coordinator and associate head coach at Rice, according to a Sports Illustrated report.

Lembo held those same position with Maryland, where he has spent the last two seasons after taking a pay cut to leave Ball State in 2015. The 47-year-old coach went 33-29 with the Cardinals, and led the program to its last bowl appearance in 2013.

Maryland has gone 10-15 in Lembo's two seasons there. The Terrapins ranked No. 11 in the nation with four blocked kicks this past season and fifth in 2016 with five blocked kicks.
