MUNCIE, Ind. — The early signing period came and went in November and Ball State's men's basketball team has yet to sign any players to its 2022 class.
Last year, Ball State signed freshmen center Payton Sparks and guard Jaylin Sellers during the early signing period. But not having any early signees, especially following an unprecedented season impacted by COVID-19, isn't uncommon in the current Division I men's basketball landscape.
Under head coach James Whitford, the only other year Ball State didn't sign any early enrollees was 2019.
It signed three — Luke Bumbalough, Ben Hendriks and Lucas Kroft, who's now at Independence Community College — in 2018, two — Kani Acree and Jarron Coleman, who's now at Missouri — in 2017, one — Ishamael El-Amin, who's now at Rhode Island — in 2016 and another — Kyle Mallers — in 2015.
