YORKTOWN, Ind. — Derek Tabor's 25-foot birdie putt on the 18th hole had everyone talking.
Remarks like "that kid's insane" and "unbelievable" could be heard amid the applause. Some in the large surrounding group at The Players Club knew the hole would determine the Muncie Central regional medalist, and Tabor's two birdies to finish his superb Thursday outing secured first place with a personal-best score of 66.
He wasn't aware of the score he had to beat, only assuming it'd be close. Tabor admitted that he began "getting in my own head" toward the end, which made his stunning putt all the more "shocking.
