NEW CASTLE, Ind. — Aydan Decker-Petty hasn't even thrown a pitch for New Castle's varsity baseball team. Despite that, one of Indiana's top rising juniors already knows where he'll be playing college ball.
Decker-Petty, who ranks No. 4 in the state and No. 270 nationally in the class of 2022, according to Prep Baseball Report, verbally committed to Indiana last week.
To be fair, the 6-foot-5 right-handed rising junior would've played plenty of innings for the Trojans this spring had the novel coronavirus not shut down sports across the country. And what a season it could've been for New Castle, which has had three of its players in the past few months commit to play Division I baseball, including fellow junior Corbin Malott who committed to Purdue last week.
