MUNCIE, Ind. — A former Ball State football player has been held in a Chinese jail for the last 14 months, and the player's mother is wondering if Donald Trump can help her son the way the president recently helped three UCLA basketball players.
Wendell Brown, who played linebacker for the Cardinals from 2004-2008 and graduated in 2009, has been in China since 2015 after going there to play and coach football. He was arrested in Sept. 2016 for allegedly hitting a man and causing him to lose an eye. Brown maintains his innocence and according to friends who attended the trial in July, video surveillance showed he didn't hit anyone.
