GASTON, Ind. — Against Wes-Del, Monroe Central had 28 players in uniform. With 28 players, most of the Golden Bears' starters played both ways out of necessity.
In Class A football, it's not uncommon to see high school teams with less than 40 players on the field. Wes-Del had 35 players on its roster Friday night. Guys play both ways, that's just the way it is.
In a typical year, Monroe Central would have anywhere between 35-40 varsity players. This season, however, has been anything but usual, leaving the Golden Bears a few players short of its typical roster size.
