MUNCIE, Ind. — As conferences across collegiate athletics adapt to the changing landscape COVID-19 has created, the Mid-American Conference announced Thursday it would be postponing the start of six of its sports’ seasons.
The MAC, citing caution for the health and well-being of its athletes, coaches and more, said its field hockey, women’s volleyball, men’s and women’s soccer and men’s and women’s cross country teams won’t compete until Sept. 3. This, so that there is more time available to prepare for the return of sports in a safe manner on a different timeline.
“This decision applies to exhibition and non-conference games and will align with the start of football season, allowing all fall competition to begin at the same time,” the MAC’s announcement read, in part.
