BLOOMINGTON – Fresh-faced after a bye week he cast as productive, IU coach Tom Allen wouldn’t expand much beyond his initial assessment that starting quarterback Michael Penix remains “week to week” with an AC joint separation in his throwing shoulder.
More than that, Allen said, there will be no midweek updates on whether Penix is practicing, how much workload he can handle or whether he’s trending toward returning. Penix’s status will remain vague until it’s not anymore.
“You’ll find out at kickoff,” Allen said with a smile.
In the meantime, the Hoosiers will turn to perhaps the most-trusted backup quarterback in the Big Ten.
