MUNCIE, Ind. — It started when John Paddock was around 8 years old. Ball State’s redshirt freshman quarterback was at a camp when a coach who was watching him throw gave him a piece of advice.
"No matter what anyone tells you to do," Paddock remembers the coach saying about his throwing motion, "you just be respectful and you say, ‘OK.’ And you don't do anything they say, you just keep throwing it how you do.
"And I took that to heart. I'm like, ‘I’m just going to trust it.’"
Fast forward about 11 years, and Paddock indeed still throws as tight of a spiral as you’ll see.
