Ball State baseball alumnus Chayce McDermott will be called up to the Baltimore Orioles to start against the Miami Marlins on Wednesday night in his Major League debut.
The right-hander is tabbed as the Orioles' top pitching prospect by MLB.com and has struck out 129 (18 more than any other Minor League pitcher) in 91.0 innings this year while sporting a 3.96 ERA for the Triple-A Norfolk Tides. The Orioles and Marlins are scheduled for a 6:40 p.m. ET first pitch in Miami for the middle game of a three-game series.
McDermott was drafted in the fourth round of the 2021 MLB Draft by the Houston Astros after earning Second Team All-MAC and Second Team All-Region honors while going 8-2 with a 3.
