NEW CASTLE, Ind. — At about 6:30 every morning before school, Mason Gillis walks downstairs to his basement to do dribbling drills. He typically works with two basketballs; sometimes it’s for five minutes, sometimes it’s for 10.
The 6-foot-6 New Castle sophomore has always been among the most talented in his age group, but because of his size, he’s been relegated to playing in the post. So to make himself a better all-around player, he’s learning to play on the perimeter too. As he also does in other areas of his life, Gillis is constantly reaching for more.
