MUNCIE, Ind. — For high school officials like Jeff Green and Jay Petty, their routine has been the same for years.
On game nights, they'll rush home after their full-time jobs, grab their equipment and head to whichever field or court they're scheduled to be at. They both played the sports — baseball, basketball and football — that they now officiate.
Guys like Green and Petty, they've got their reasons for officiating. Among the five referees The Star Press spoke to, those reasons varied from staying in shape to developing relationships with administrators, coaches and players from different schools.
