MUNCIE, Ind. — It’s 11:25 p.m. on a Tuesday in late January, more than two hours since Ball State’s men’s basketball game against Miami ended. It’s mostly quiet in the team’s office. James Whitford and his staff are gone, back to their homes to spend the rest of the night with their families.
But there is one person still grinding away in the office as Tuesday turns to Wednesday, and he is a Ball State student. After devouring his Jimmy John’s sandwich, he gets to work. Jason Smith, Ball State basketball’s head manager, is going through the film from the just-finished game and organizing each play into a myriad of sub-categories.
