INDIANAPOLIS — There's something about a third-place finish that's bittersweet for Brad Laughlin.

He's the third best in the state in the 145 weight class, proven with a 4-2 win over Jordan Vaughn at the IHSAA state wrestling championships.

Not good enough, at least not for him.

"I know I have another year still, but I wish I had competed harder in the semis," Yorktown's Laughlin said. "I couldn't escape. I can wrestle on my feet pretty well, but on the mat (Joe Lee) just tore me up."

Hours earlier, Laughlin, a junior, fell 4-0 to Lee in the semifinal, the lone competitor from Yorktown, Delta, Daleville or Jay County to make it that far.
