BLOOMINGTON – Tom Allen’s worry over senior safety Devon Matthews, expressed in the wake of IU’s 34-6 loss at Iowa on Saturday, was relieved at least a little bit by Monday morning.
Matthews, a fixture at the back end of Indiana’s defense for the past three seasons, sustained what Allen would only describe as an upper-body injury during a gang tackle in the first half Saturday in Iowa City. He remained down for several minutes before walking off the field.
He did not return to the game, and in fact was transported to a local hospital, where Matthews spent rest of the weekend as a precaution.
