MUNCIE, Ind. — Delta football is a young team that failed to earn a winning record for the first time in the program's last four seasons.
The team (5-5) entered Friday night on a four-game losing streak and having lost five of its last six contests, none of which were particularly competitive.
But the Eagles came out firing in their Class 4A sectional first-round home matchup against Fort Wayne South Side (1-9), scoring 21 first-quarter points against an opponent more talented than its record would indicate.
Delta saw its momentum snatched more than once in the first half, but head coach Chris Overholt's group took control early in the third frame and never looked back
"We've just had a very young team that's kind of seasoned and learned a lot of hard lessons over the course of the season in a very good conference," Overholt said.
