Did anyone have rookie Alexander Rossi as a strong possibility to win Sunday’s 100th 500? Rossi’s boss, Michael Andretti, conceded he all but gave up on winning the much-hyped event once Andretti Autosport teammates Townsend Bell and Ryan Hunter-Reay collided on pit road on Lap 118.
Bryan Herta wasn’t sure a fuel strategy given to Rossi would work, and Herta mentioned “a few debates” between them during the second half of the race.
