IRONMAN Muncie: A chance to find solitude among 3,000 other athletes

MUNCIE, Ind. — Julia Scholz-Pinger is a proud stay-at-home mom from Bellbrook, Ohio. But not when she is racing.

When on the triathlon course "I am not a mother, not a wife, not a sister. I am out there by myself."

And it's a good feeling, she said.

"I like being alone."

But when she hears fans cheer, she goes faster, which was her reason for standing on the shore of Prairie Creek Lake Saturday before dawn. This race, she was working as a fan for her friend Janet Lee, also from the Dayton, Ohio area.
