MUNCIE, Ind. — Yorktown High School and Ball State University graduate Brian Myrick always enjoys coming back to his hometown to run the oldest half Ironman in the world. He said the volunteer support and closed course helps the athletes feel safe and creates an energetic environment.
"That's what keeps them coming back," the race director said.
The 39th annual Ironman 70.3 Muncie is Saturday at Prairie Creek Reservoir. The race consists of a 1.2-mile swim, a 56-mile bike and a 13.1 mile run. Things to know:

Myrick said about 1,900 athletes were registered as of Thursday, and he expected more walk-up registrations as well.
