Inside the United Auto Workers gymnasium in Anderson, his dad an employee of Delco-Remy, Randy Zachary would shoot around for hours. His cousin Staci Parks and he grew up in UAW families in the 1970s and '80s.
It was a time when thousands of workers overtook the city and factories were booming. Bars were packed as shifts changed. Late night employee basketball games were played after hours.
Zachary would find his way into that gym to practice with his cousin. After they shot for an hour or two and before they allowed themselves to leave, each would take 100 free throws.
