MUNCIE, Ind. — To Tyler Cochran, choosing to continue his collegiate basketball career at Ball State is about more than just joining a different program.
Cochran had spent his freshman and sophomore seasons in the Mid-American Conference at Northern Illinois. When he arrived ahead of the 2019-20 season, he tried to just fit in with his new head coach and teammates. He was passive, unlike how he felt he’d been in high school or while playing AAU ball.

So even though Cochran liked the new head coach NIU brought in last month, after moving on from Mark Montgomery in January, Cochran made a decision.
