‘I keep forgetting that he’s a freshman’: How Clayton Coll established himself early in his Ball State career

MUNCIE, Ind. — Clayton Coll didn’t need long during spring ball to prove to his coaches he belonged.

Ball State head coach Mike Neu remembers a couple hits, one specifically at the goal line during a scrimmage, that had him saying, “Wow!” Inside linebackers coach Tyler Stockton remembers when Coll chased down a receiver from the opposite side of the field. Defensive coordinator David Elson remembers more than once walking off the practice field with other coaches and everyone looking at each other and saying, “Yeah, he’s going to be OK.”
