MUNCIE, Ind. — Sam Bennett remembers when he first heard the news.
It was a Friday in August and the reigning Indiana high school diving state champion was at a club practice all day. When Bennett finally checked his phone, the Delta senior saw a text from one of his friends that read: "I heard the news, I'm so sorry."
With no context, Bennett didn't know what the text meant. Sorry about what? A quick Google search, however, revealed that the University of Iowa had announced plans to cut four sports following the 2020-21 academic year: men's gymnastics, men's tennis and both men's and women's swimming and diving.
