MUNCIE, Ind. — It didn’t register for Joel Godett on March 12, the day the Mid-American Conference canceled the remainder of its men’s and women’s basketball tournaments, how much COVID-19 concerns were going to constrain the world of sports.
Ball State Athletics’ director of broadcasting remembers sitting at a bar the day before in Cleveland, after BSU’s women’s basketball team lost its tournament opener, and thinking that neither the women’s nor the men’s tournaments would continue. He remembers interviewing BSU’s athletic director and cutting out the last question of the video that was posted, because it addressed spring sports, and by the time Godett released the video BSU had announced the remainder of its sports seasons for 2019-20 were canceled.
