MUNCIE, Ind. — As a high school quarterback in Texas, Hank Hughes looked up to him. A lot of quarterbacks there probably did. After all, this was Johnny Football, and he was taking the college football world by storm. When Texas A&M’s Johnny Manziel won the Heisman Trophy in 2012, Hughes was a freshman in high school.
When Texas A&M asked Hughes to come on board as a preferred walk-on, it was a no-brainer, even though he had other Division I scholarship offers, one of them being from Mid-American Conference foe Eastern Michigan.
While Hughes fulfilled that dream and ran out onto Kyle Field against Alabama in front of 101,058 fans, he set his sights on a different dream – actually playing college football.
